چکیده

The cranio-orbital approaches have been successfully employed for resection of tumours involving the orbit and anterior skull base. With modifications of the cranio-orbital bone flap (changing the position and size of the flap), incorporation of posterior orbitotomy or zygomatic osteotomy, the cranio-orbital approaches can be specifically tailored to optimize the access to tumours located in a variety of locations.

Fungal infection of the sinus and anterior skull base

Abstract   Background: Invasive fungal infection is an opportunistic infection caused commonly   by mucoraccae and aspergillus. It mostly occurs in patients with underlying disease.   Since it has a high mortality and morbidity rate, considering a treatment strategy seems   necessary.   Objective: Since there has not been a clear protocol for treating these patients, we decided   to establish...

Cranio-orbital approach for the paraclinoidal and anterior communicating aneurysms.

Aneurysms arising at the proximal intracranial carotid artery (between cavernous sinus and posterior communicating artery) and at the anterior communicating complex may present with technical difficulties regarding appropriate access without excessive brain retraction. In a series of 15 patients the authors show the use of the cranio-orbital approach, formerly designed in the access of skull ba...

Modern Indications for Endoscopic Endonasal Surgery

Endoscopic endonasal surgery has become a standard procedure for functional treatment of benign pathologies. Materials and improved surgeon skills have allowed the number of indications for this approach to increase. We describe some of the main pathologies, including malignancies, that can be treated endoscopically, focussing on the orbital and skull base pathologies. The orbital indications d...

Giant osteoma of the ethmoid sinus with orbital extension: craniofacial approach and orbital reconstruction

Osteomas are the most common fibro-osseous lesions in the paranasal sinus. They are benign tumours characterized by slow growth and are often asymptomatic. Treatment is indicated in sphenoid osteomas that threaten the optic canal or orbital apex and in symptomatic cases. The choice of surgical management depends on the location, size and experience of the surgeon. An open approach allows tumour...

Pterygomaxillary extension of orbital pseudotumor. Case report.

Idiopatic pseudotumor (IP) is a non-specific, non-neoplastic, inflammatory process without identifiable local or systemic causes. IP most commonly affects the orbit, comprising 5% to 8% of all orbital masses with occasional extension to other areas of the skull base. The ophthalmology literature has detailed reviews of IP as a space-occupying intraorbital lesion, but lesion involving only the s...
